Why Inky Rose Flower Co.?

The name Inky Rose Flower Co. is a blend of what I do and a nod to departed loved ones who I wish to honour.  It all started with a hybrid tea rose, cut from a small townhouse garden at a dinner party when I was first married, way back in 1997.  To me, it seemed plausible that you could grow roses anywhere (which is true, but they do need lots of sun).

Inky comes from my surname, Ink.  My awesome dad was the only son in his family lineage, and he didn’t have any sons, just my amazing sister and myself.  Dad went to heaven in January 2019, and I wish to honour him by naming my company after him.

The Y in Inky is dedicated to Mimi Sova, who always called me Inky.  Mimi departed this earth far too soon after a long and courageous battle with cancer in 2021. In fact, Mimi’s family calls me Inky to this day.  Orange tulips were Mimi’s favourite flower and, as long as I’m able to, I will plant orange tulips in honour of Mimi.

The phrase “Flower Co.” is in the company name because I do grow my own flowers. I study seed catalogues and source seeds to grow a unique blend of cut flowers for my summer bouquets. Our family’s office is now the seedling center, where I have heat mats and grow lights.  I have a tiny green house in our back yard and every blade of grass has been turned into flower beds.
